Juvela Bread: Our Story

Here at Juvela our bakers have been expertly perfecting our authentic tasting gluten-free bread range for 25 years.

To make sure our bread bakes and tastes just like real bread we make our dough from wheat flour that has the gluten removed. We bake bread that tastes as authentic as ‘real’ bread, just without the gluten. It meets international standards for gluten-free foods and has been enjoyed for over 25 years by people who follow a gluten-free diet.

Just like real bread all our loaves and rolls are fortified with essential vitamins and iron.

Missed your bread but why only Tesco? Can you not get Sainsbury and Morrisons on board?

Hi Fred. The decision on which of our products are stocked is made by the retailer. The Juvela Team

Currently the only products available in Tesco are our white and fibre fresh bread and rolls. If in the future we expand our range within Tesco we will keep our website and social media pages updated. However the decision to which of our products are stocked is made by the retailer.

I have used Juvelaharvest mix flour for 20 years. To make a fresh bread tasting sandwich on the first day of baking always takes me back to the days of gluten containing bread.

Both my wife and I are Coeliac and have been enjoying Juvela products for at least 20 years.
We are pleased that we can now obtain your bread from our local Tesco now that we cannot get it on prescription. We do miss your flour though.

I have used Juvela harvest mix flour for 20 years. On the first day of baking I always make a sandwich and it always reminds me of the previous 60 years of gluten containing bread. It’s a shame that the fresh taste only lasts that first day.

My son, grandaughter and I are Coeliac and have enjoyed Juvela products over the years.
We are very pleased that we can now obtain your bread from our closest Tesco, now that we cannot get it on prescription. It’s a shame that your flour isn’t available. I look forward to your products becoming available at other supermarkets.

At last, more gluten free items to choose from! With more and more people being diagnosed with Coeliac disease, the supermarkets are beginning to carry a larger range of gluten free items, and bread is a very important part of a staple diet, I myself have been a diagnosed coeliac for the last 20 years, and it is only fairly recently that I have been able to enjoy something as simple as a sandwich! I love your bread, but haven’t yet tried the rolls, I hope my local Tescos will soon stock them.. Good work Juvela! Keep it up !

Gluten free products have been taken off NHS prescriptions in our area so at last I can be reunited with your bread. Many thanks.

As prescriptions are no longer an option, this now means more choice from a supermarket.

I like your bread but as it’s not available on prescription how about making the pricing available to all, also does your products have folic acid in it as I now am diagnosed with low red blood cell count & need to now take folic acid tablets in an attempt to rectify it
I notice that other brands are stating to show folic acid in ingredients

Wish our Tesco sold your bread. There is only a small area with gluten free food and most is biscuits and cakes high in sugar.

Hello John, if you would like to pick up a loaf please check on our store locator to find your nearest store, all you need to do is click on the link and type in your postcode where it says ‘your location’ and then press the red search button- https://www.juvela.co.uk/store-locator/ If you don’t have a store local to you, we would advise you to try and order it online on Tesco’s website as it may be available in a picking store in your area. If you still can’t get it, we would encourage you to speak to your local store manager and ask them about stocking Juvela Bread. If you really want our bread and can’t get it in your local store or online, you can purchase it from any pharmacy who can order it in for you. Unfortunately they do add a mark-up price which we have no influence over. The price would vary from pharmacy to pharmacy so please make sure you are happy with the price before placing an order. If you want to buy our part baked loaves/rolls or long-life loaves/rolls these are available to buy on http://www.chemist.net along with all of our other products if you search for Juvela. Kind Regards, The Juvela Team

Juvela is probably the best gluten-free bread you will ever taste, either toasted, or straight from the pack, it’s truly delicious!

As a Coeliac I loved Juvela bread and mix for about 15 years until the Norfolk CCG’s stopped prescribing gluten free foods, so it was great to see it it Tesco’s recently.
Unfortunately though, “Genius” were promoting their 535gm loaves at the same time at £2 per loaf, so it didn’t get the Juvela stuff off to a very good start.
One other point was that the “best before” date on the closure tape was either missing altogether or unreadable on many loaves, again not too encouraging.

I am surprised to learn that you can use wheat flour (with gluten removed). If you can reassure me about the quantity of gluten ppm remaining I would be happy to try the bread. Thank you.

Hello, people with coeliac disease are told to avoid wheat, barley and rye which is correct however it is the GLUTEN in the wheat, rye and barley that they react to (not the actual wheat, barley and rye). Our products go through vigorous testing to make sure they are safe for people with coeliac disease as the gluten is fully removed from the wheat. Our bread is well within the international codex standards of being below 20 parts per million, ours is actually below 5 parts per million so if you have coeliac disease we can reassure you have safely been providing our bread on prescription for people with coeliac disease for over 25 years. We use gluten free wheat starch which should not be confused with normal wheat starch However if you have been told you have a specific wheat intolerance (in addition to coeliac disease) the bread wouldn’t be safe for you. We hope this makes sense, if you have any questions please let us know. We choose to use gluten free wheat starch in some of our products as it produces superior baking results that most closely resemble the quality of gluten-containing foods in terms of taste and texture. Our customers tell us that they want bread that tastes as close to real bread as possible, so we like to use high quality ingredients to make authentic tasting gluten-free bread. Kind Regards, The Juvela Team

So glad that I can get Juvela at my nearest Tescos. Which is a 14 mile round trip! Will you be promoting the bread mix too? That’s what I have been using for the last 20 years and I love my home baked bread. Such a shame that my local area has stopped prescribing GF stuff, and I was really concerned that I would not be able to get it . It’s certainly helped me stick to my GF diet!
