Great (Gluten-Free) Bake Off 2018

Since we’re eagerly following the Great British Bake Off this year, we set ourselves a challenge to make our very own gluten-free bakes in line with the weekly Bake Off theme!

Recipes use Juvela Gluten-Free White Mix
For Vegan Week, we used Juvela Gluten-Free Harvest Mix

Week 1 – Biscuit Week

We kick off with our favourite biscuit… the cookie!

Scrummy cookies with a soft runny centre if you eat them warm or a thick chocolate middle if you can wait long enough for them to cool!

Week 2 – Cake Week

For Cake Week, we’ve been busy in the Juvela kitchen developing a BRAND NEW  cake recipe using the Juvela Gluten-Free Mix – showing you how our Mixes really do make simply everything – so versatile, adaptable and reliable!

And here is the latest creation – a fabulous Chocolate Marble Cake – swirls of chocolate and vanilla sponge make this cake look really enticing, and the flavours are just divine!

Week 3 – Bread Week

We’ve jumped on the bread making bandwagon and created a simple recipe for a delicious crusty loaf which you can make as a white, fibre or multi-seeded loaf.

Who doesn’t love a thick slice of freshly baked bread (especially while it’s still warm from the oven), with your favourite cheese, pate or simply spread with butter – simple pleasures!

Week 4 – Dessert Week
gluten free tiramisu

We are all thoroughly enjoying the series so far and cannot wait for a splendid array of delicious desserts tonight.

It also gives us the perfect excuse to bake a delicious dessert here in the Juvela kitchen!

A quick vote and the classic Italian favourite, tiramisu, won hands down! Layers of coffee-soaked sponge and rich marsala infused cream make up this delightful dessert, perfect to end any meal!

Don’t forget to share your favourite dessert recipes with us – we love seeing how enthused everyone is by the GBBO!

Week 5 – Spice Week

Things are really ‘spicing’ up on this week’s bake off with the first ever spice week! And as always, it sparked lots of chatter here in the Juvela office on what baking delights we could make to incorporate spices!

After some deliberation, we decided on iced buns with a twist – deliciously sticky fruity buns, with the perfect hint of spice! A perfect mid-afternoon treat!

They are so simple to make – give them a go yourself, you will not be disappointed!

Week 6 – Pastry Week

Pastry week is always one of our favourites!!

Once you have mastered the technique of making gluten-free pastry, the possibilities are literally endless, whether it be sweet or savoury…..quiches, tarts, pies, tartlets – from the simple to the elaborate, there’s a filling or topping to please everyone!

We love this divine combo of blue cheese, caramelised onions and walnuts – perfect toppings for this pastry tart!

Week 7 – Vegan Week

This was a curve ball from the Great British Bake Off!

We said we’d do a gluten-free bake every week and we will not disappoint! It took us a while but with a little help from a Vegan friend, we settled on Chocolate Vegan Brownies. And after a little recipe development, we were pleasantly surprised at just how good brownies turn out without any egg or butter! Amazing!

Week 8 – Danish Week

After last week’s curve ball of Vegan week, we have another first for this year with Danish week! Another tricky one, bringing lots of debate amongst the Juvela team, and a little bit of research, and here is our nod to Danish week…

Aebleskiver – a traditional Danish dessert, very much like mini doughnuts. Although they are traditionally served during Advent, we are sure you will agree that these delightful bite-size morsels are perfect at any time of the year, and indeed at any time of the day!!

Week 9 – Pâtisserie Week

This week, we are delighted to feature a special recipe from guest blogger and Juvela Mix enthusiast, Bron Bradshaw. Bron never fails to amaze us with her fabulous gluten-free creations – she gets our vote for star baker every time!

This tarte au citron is a perfect recipe for patisserie week – a deliciously lemony and zesty tart and a perfect sweet treat!

Week 10 – The Final

As there isn’t a set ‘theme’ for final week, we thought we would go with our winning recipe using the Juvela Gluten-Free White Mix…Lemon Drizzle Cake!

According to research published in the Telegraph last month, lemon drizzle cake has been voted the UK’s favourite cake! We certainly won’t be arguing with that – this is by far the favourite recipe at Juvela HQ.

Delighted to get so many lovely recipes. My husband has acid reflux and a hiatus hernia so he tries to avoid acidic foods. Look forward to your email every week. Anne

I have been absent for some time, but now I remember why I used to love this blog. Thank you, I will try and check back more often. How frequently you update your web site?

Hurray for vegan week, it is so hard to find gluten free and vegan recipes. Are there any more out there you can point me towards? Would love to do cakes and pastries

We will certainly try to include more vegan recipes in the future! In the meantime, if you have any suitable recipes which use traditional flour, the Juvela Harvest Mix can often be used as a direct substitute for self-raising flour in many recipes.
