Mushroom & Gruyere Toastie

Toasties in an air fryer are a game changer - thick slices of gluten free bread filled with your favourite fillings and air fried until the bread is crisp and the cheese is melted - delicious!

Ingredients

10g butter
2 slices thick slices unsliced white loaf or 2 slices fresh or longlife loaf
¼ onion, finely sliced
1 clove garlic, crushed
3-4 chestnut mushrooms, thickly sliced
1 tsp fresh thyme
Freshly ground black pepper
25g grated Gruyere or mature cheddar

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a small frying pan and gently fry the onions for a few minutes, then add the garlic, mushrooms and thyme and continue to fry for approx. 5 minutes. Season with freshly ground black pepper.
  2. Meanwhile, butter the outer side of each slice of bread ready for toasting.
  3. Once the mushrooms are cooked, pile onto one slice of bread (unbuttered side) and top with grated cheese.
  4. Top with the other slice of bread (butter side up) and transfer into the air fryer.
  5. Cook at 190°C for 10-12 minutes, turning halfway through cooking, until golden and cheese is melted
