Crumpets - the versatile snack which can be enjoyed at any time of the day! Topped with sweet or savoury toppings, the choice is yours and the possibilities are endless!

This recipe uses 300g of White Mix. A 500g pack of White Mix is 2 units of your monthly prescription unit allowance

  • 300g Juvela Gluten-Free White Mix
  • 1 sachet dried yeast (supplied with Mix)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 200ml tepid milk
  • 250ml tepid water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Method

    1. In a large bowl, mix together the Mix, yeast, salt and bicarbonate of soda.
    2. Combine the water and milk and pour into the dry ingredients.
    3. Mix thoroughly for 4-5 minutes to form a thick batter.
    4. Cover and leave in a warm place for 1 hour.
    5. Place a large non-stick frying pan on a high heat, then pour a drop of oil into the pan and carefully rub around the surface with kitchen roll.
    6. Grease inside crumpet rings or metal scone cutters and place in pan to heat through.
    7. Pour batter ½ inch in depth into each ring.
    8. Reduce heat and cook for 5-7 minutes until the surface of the crumpet appears dry and holey.
    9. When set remove ring and flip crumpet over.
    10. Cook for 1 minute to colour the top.
    11. Carefully remove from pan and allow to cool on a wire rack.
