I was lucky enough to be on the Juvela stand at the Allergy & Free From Show North which was held at the BT Conference Centre in Liverpool this weekend on Saturday with Jen and Anna and we had a great day! It was just lovely to get to speak to so many people and help them with enquiries about our products and offering advice on how to order things on prescription. It’s great hearing such positive comments about how much you enjoy the Juvela range and the little tips you pass on to us!
As I sit and write my blog today, I am doing so whilst enjoying a lovely slice of gluten free lemon drizzle cake, that I purchased from the No Gluten Baker stand at the Allergy Show. The cake is delicious, we did also try the Victoria sandwich cake and chocolate cake and they were equally yum!
There were many ‘free from’ companies that attended the event over the weekend. I was spoilt for choice with things to buy and eventually settled on some Samosas from Afias. I chose the Spicy Mixed Vegetable and a Scotch Bonnet Chilli – amazingly hot, but fantastic! I also brought a packet of Fig & Quinoa biscuits, which had a nice crunchy texture and the flavour of fig really came through from Doves Farm.
Events like this are fabulous and it is great to see how many friends and family come along too, as this is a perfect way of sharing with others the things you have to take into account when managing your gluten free diet. They are also useful to see what great products and support is available whether you have just been diagnosed with coeliac or lived with it for many years! So if you get the chance, do bring along family or friends with you to any event whether it be a gluten free food fair, cookery demo, local group meeting or maybe one of the Juvela Roadshows!
Will sign off now to enjoy the rest of my cake! If you want to make your own gluten-free cake, there is a super recipe for lemon drizzle cake on our website and it freezes very well too, so if you want to portion it up and pop it in the freezer you will have a nice bit of cake on hand just when you fancy it.
NB – In my last blog I told you of my visit to a Costa coffee shop at the Wetherby service station. Since writing that piece it has been highlighted by one of our customers that the chocolate I had sprinkled on my coffee is NOT gluten free. I did go on the word of the lady behind the till, but in hindsight I should have asked to check the allergen card that they have available in Costa stores. Lesson learned – if in doubt leave it out!
